Verbal Humiliation: meaning

Verbal humiliation puts the play in the language. No props, no ropes, only a voice and a few well-chosen words. For some people it is the most intense kink there is, because words reach places that touch cannot.
How it works
The words work because they stir a feeling that the person likes to feel: shy, small, seen. A comment on performance, a name, a comparison. Delivered by someone trusted, in a scene both entered, the discomfort becomes arousal. The same sentence from a stranger or in anger would hurt. The context is everything.
Typical forms
- Names and nicknames chosen in advance.
- Teasing about size, stamina or status, a classic of SPH.
- Commentary on actions: "Look at you, waiting by the door."
- Comparisons with an imagined or real partner.
- Orders delivered with a smile.
- Praise that is also an insult, a twist that makes the listener squirm.
Negotiating words
Before a scene, build a word list:
- Green words: those he likes.
- Yellow words: those to be used sparingly or only in certain moods.
- Red words: those never to be used. Typically family, real insecurities, health, appearance, race or anything tied to trauma.
