M4F: meaning
Also: male for female, m4f audio
M4F reads as "male for female". The first letter is the voice, the second is the listener. A man is speaking, and he is speaking to a woman. If you see it in the title of a file, you know the point of view before you press play.

The "4" is just shorthand for "for". The tags became standard on audio communities as a quick filter, because the listener's identity changes how a script is written: pronouns, names, body references and the whole emotional position.
Why it matters
A man who listens to an M4F recording is hearing a script written for someone else. He might enjoy the voice and the story, but the "you" is a woman. That is different from F4M, where "you" is a man. Listeners who want themselves in the scene usually pick the tag that matches them, or choose an all-listener (A) tag.
M4F in cuckold culture
Cuckold audio is mostly F4M: a wife speaking to her husband. Yet M4F has a place.
