Abreaction: meaning
Also: emotional release in hypnosis, abreactive response

Abreaction sounds clinical, and the experience is simple: you are listening, relaxed, and suddenly you are crying, or your chest tightens, or you laugh without knowing why. It is the mind letting something out that it was holding in. In ordinary erotic hypnosis it is rare, but it is worth knowing about because it is the one reaction that deserves a plan.
Why it can happen
Trance quiets the part of you that normally keeps feelings in check. If a session touches something tender, such as jealousy, shame, grief or a memory, the feeling can arrive faster than your usual filter lets it. Jealousy is a common example in cuckold material. Hearing your wife's evening described can open a gate you did not know was there; see jealousy and compersion for how the same feeling can turn warm.
What it looks like

- Tears, with or without sadness attached
- A sudden wave of heat, trembling or goosebumps
- Laughter that comes out of nowhere
- A sense of panic or tightness
- An urge to stop and sit up
Any of these can also be a normal sign of a deep, enjoyable session. The difference is whether it feels welcome or overwhelming.
What to do in the moment
- You are in charge. Take the headphones off, open your eyes, put your feet on the floor. A recorded voice has no power over that.
- Slow your breathing. In through the nose for four, out through the mouth for six.
- Name the room. Say five things you can see. This returns your attention to the present.
- Let it finish. Crying is not harmful. Allow it, then drink some water.
- Do not push on. Do not restart the same file straight away.
Afterwards

Treat it like aftercare: something warm, a few quiet minutes, and if you are with your wife, tell her. A short conversation does more good than ignoring it. If the same topic produces the same reaction repeatedly, that is information about what you are not ready for. The material may need to be softer, the pace slower, or the subject set aside. Choosing sessions that lower the risk
Pick files that state their theme, avoid surprises and end with a clear return. The free course at Start Here begins gently and builds. If you have a history of trauma or panic, take it slowly, and consider stopping a session at any time without apology. You do not owe a recording the finish.
One-line version: Abreaction: a sudden emotional release in or after trance; stop, breathe, ground yourself, and take it slowly.
Examples in a sentence

- She noticed his abreaction, held his hand and let him cry for a minute.
Frequently asked questions
Is abreaction dangerous?
Usually not. It is an emotional release, and crying or trembling passes within minutes once you open your eyes and breathe. If it keeps happening or you feel panic, stop the material, ground yourself and speak to someone you trust or a therapist.
Can erotic hypnosis cause an abreaction?
It can, though rarely. Themes such as jealousy, shame or humiliation can touch tender areas. Choose gentle sessions, listen when you are well rested, and stop whenever it feels like too much. You can always take the headphones off.
