Tist: meaning

Also: hypnotist (tist), hypno tist, tee and tist

tist meaning hypnosis
Tist: Tist is community shorthand for hypnotist, the person who guides a hypnosis session. Its partner word is tee, short for the subject or the one being hypnotised. Both words appear in forums, requests and scripts, and neither implies a particular kink on its own.

Tist is short for hypnotist. Its partner term, tee, means the person hypnotised. Together they appear in forums, scripts and requests: "tist looking for a tee", "tee seeking a gentle tist". The words are neutral and carry no kink on their own, though they are common in hypnokink spaces.

Where the words come from

Online hypnosis communities needed a quick way to label roles. "Hypnotist" and "subject" were long, and "subject" sounded clinical. Tist and tee are compact, easy to type and symmetrical. They are less common outside the community, and many beginners meet them only in a thread title.

WordMeaning
TistHypnotist
TeeSubject

DeepenerA technique to increase depth; see deepener
TriggerA cue linked to a response; see trigger
EmergerThe wake-up section; see emerger

Roles in a session

A tist leads. A tee follows, but remains in control: they choose to take part, can speak, can stop and can open their eyes. In a good session the tist reads the tee's responses, adjusts speed and watches for discomfort. In audio there is no live reading, so the structure and the safety clause carry that work.

Tist versus hypnodomme

Tist versus hypnodomme, Juliet Monroe

A hypnodomme is a tist who adds dominance. A tist can be warm and neutral, a therapist or a hobbyist. In my recordings I am both: the voice leads, the listener stays free.

Using the words

If you post a request, say what you want: duration, theme, limits, whether you want a safeword. A good request avoids vague phrases such as "do whatever." A good tist replies with questions, not promises.

Beginner tips

Beginner tips, Juliet Monroe
  1. Start with audio, not live sessions with strangers.
  2. Read about consent in erotic hypnosis.
  3. Try a free recording to see how a tist's voice lands, for instance Part 1 of Start Here.
  4. Notice how you feel after, and rest if you need to.

The wider overview is in how to listen to erotic hypnosis.

Reading a request

A well-written tee request names a theme, a length, limits and whether the tee wants dominance or warmth. A well-written tist reply names the plan, the emerger and the stop signals. If either side skips these, ask. The words are only labels; the safeguards behind them are what make a session good.

Outside the community the word means little, so spell out "hypnotist" when you explain it to a partner. The shorthand helps in a thread, but clarity helps in a conversation.
